Hello, we have bought a multiple developper (10 Users?) licence for Vista DB3.5. Now we wanted to install it on another machine. The installation starts and tries to install some files. But if it comes to install "c:\Programme\VistaDB 3\Frameworks\NET 2.0\Samples\Asp.Net\NetPoll\readme.txt"
It says that it doesnt have enough privileges to change the rights of this file. If we accept the error message, the installation is rolled back and the complete vista DB3 folders are removed - and so is the file.
I hope that we can install our remaining copies of Vista DB 3.5 without Problems - we already have installed 3 of our 6 computers.
Greetings Wolfgang Roth

What operating system are you using? Are you installing it as administrator? You will probably need to install it as admin.

If you are getting an error copying it file it has nothing to do with the licenses of your serial number. Like Ben said the setup should already require admin rights, but if you are running something without UAC you need to make sure the user installing has admin rights to install to that folder. Also make sure your .Net framework is up to date. If you are running on an older machine without Windows Updates you could have a problem running the application after install. The samples are not required (you could uncheck it from the setup so they are not copied). Jason Short

Hello, we are using Windows XP with SP2 and are all uptodate with updates. All of my colleaques have the same brand of computer and have all Administrator rights to install. On no machine there where those problems.
But unchecking the samples may fix the problem at first. It is just ridiculous that the installation program cannot modify a file that it has installed on its own.

That file should not already be present, so the installer would fail with an inability to overwrite it probably. If you already had previous installs on the machine uninstalling and wiping the install directory may solve the problem for you. 4.x actually uses a different installer (Tarma) because of problems we had reported from the older installer. Hello, we did some more testing to install VistaDB3.5. The following text was shown on our first try, when installing completely: The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file "c:\Programme\VistaDB 3\Frameworks\NET 2.0\Samples\Asp.Net\NetPoll\readme.txt"
Then we did as Jason told us, and installed without samples. Then the installtion ran through, but the License manager didnt start. We tried to start it manually, but it refused to, with a similar error message, that it hasnt enough privileges to run.
What else can we do?
Greetings Wolfgang

Which exact version of VistaDB 3.5 are you installing? You wrote initially that you succeeded installing it on 3 out of 6 computers. Did you already try to install it on the other 2 computers? How did that go? The readme.txt file in the Netpoll directory does also exist on my system. It seems to have 'normal' security settings. If I try to start the license manager as a non-admin, I get the following error message: Quote:Administrator privileges are required to run this program. Is that the same error message you get? If so, then I think you need to double check whether you're installing with administrator rights on that PC. World Clock for Windows or Windows Mobile? Toriasoft

Hello, before lunch, we discovered that the folder C:\programme and some of its subfolders has the encryption file attribute set. Dont know how it became set, but now we try to unset it and try the installation again. Perhaps this was the error. Greetings Wolfgang Edit: Yes this was the problem, removing the encryption state from files and folders solved the problem with the installation and the license manager

Interesting, EFS encryption? We have a couple tickets from people with EFS encryption on Vista who had problems. But in all cases when they removed the encryption from the folder all went well. We were unable to reproduce it here though. Jason Short
