Read the complete 4.1 announcement on the blogSync Framework V2 will be supported through some scenarios. There are a ton of options in Sync and a lot of complex scenarios that will probably not work because we are client based. But we have the two tier solution working within the engine already, so we are confident that will ship with the initial beta. The other scenarios will have to wait until we see what all they require.
This will give users the ability to sync to and from a SQL Server database that they can connect to from their machine (could be LAN, VPN, Internet if the SQL Server is exposed). This is by far the #1 request we have from users.
